Brief
Smartgas Gas Stations has over 40 branches across 4 different states in Mexico. They also have their own app, SocioSmart, whose main goal is to build and maintain brand loyalty amongst their customers. I worked on this project as a freelancer to redesign and restructure the existing app. I also added new features, and coordinated and communicated with the Engineering team at Smartgas so the implementation went smoothly once the design was approved and delivered.

Project goals
Redesigning and restructuring the existing app to increase brand awareness and brand loyalty
Incorporate the billing feature into the app, as well as designing the raffles and self service features
Redesign must consider corporate users (e.g. a taxi dispatch) and individual users (general public)
This app must work in both iOS and Android
Solution
Mockups have been translated from their original Spanish.

Loyalty program
Every time they load fuel, our clients collect points in their SocioSmart account, which they can later exchange for vouchers to use in local businesses (which change depending on the city) or entries to the biannual raffles.
Activity and gas mileage
Users have a section within the app where they can see all the transactions they’ve done in their account, whether it’s fuel loads, coupon exchange, coupon refund, and the details for each of them. The app also calculates the average gas mileage based on the 10 latest loads, this way we provide transparency and reinforce brand trust and loyalty, as well as incentivising them to return to Smartgas stations for a more accurate reading.

Map feature
Following up with brand loyalty reinforcement, we provide users with the map feature to locate their nearest SocioSmart station so that they keep collecting points, saving time, reducing stress, and enhancing the overall experience.
Billing feature
One of Smartgas’s requirements was to bring the Billing feature into the app and do it in an intuitive way. Clients will now be able to generate a bill from one or multiple receipts by scanning the QR code at the bottom of each of them, then selecting a billing profile (with its predefined info). For the client’s security, and since billing can’t be reversed, the generation of the bill will need to be confirmed twice.

Self service
All across Mexico, you still need station employees to pump the gas for you. Smartgas is in the middle of incorporating self-service pumps in several of their stations and the idea is to handle this through the app. We have an additional cultural barrier where we have to teach users how this is done, so we designed a simple process inspired by the exchange that goes on between the employee and the client, and after the payment the user will see a step by step breakdown supported by pictures on how to pump gas by themselves.

The end result is intuitive, refined and elegant.
